The first worship service of Peace Lutheran Church was held on January 6, 1985 at the Bloom Elementary School, Lithopolis, Ohio. Seventy-six people were in attendance on that first Sunday, with Pastor Francis Smith leading the service.
The congregation was formed in March 1985. In April of that year, Pastor Frederick Klopfer was extended a call as the first pastor. He served until 1992. The present church building served the congregation of David Lutheran Church until 1975 when it was purchased by a Baptist congregation. They outgrew the facility and sold it to the members of Peace Lutheran Church in 1985. The building, erected in 1881, is listed on the National Historic Register. Kurt Luebkeman was installed as pastor of the congregation on July 5, 1992. He served until 2000. Pastor David Barnhart accepted the call as the third pastor of Peace Lutheran Church. He was installed on April 14, 2002. In May of 2004, Peace congregation voted to affiliate with the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations (AFLC), a Biblical and Christ-centered organization. Pastor Curt Emerson was pastor from 2005 until 2014. Pastor David Barnhart served as the interim pastor from 2014 until July 2015, at which time he was joined by Pastor Ken Thoreson as an associate interim pastor. Both men served until April of 2016. In May of 2016, Pastor Michael Johnson accepted a call to Peace Free Lutheran Church. He served until November of 2022. On November 1st of 2023, Pastor Steven Carlson accepted a call to Peace Free Lutheran Church. He was installed on January 7th of 2024 and is currently serving as our pastor.
